The existing kitchen/dining room was cramped, dark and isolating. The homeowners baked almost daily and entertained large groups regularly. Finding the needed space was the first challenge. 144 sq ft was borrowed from a bedroom that adjoined the back wall of the kitchen. The homeowners wanted a unique design that was both comfortable and elegant. The kitchen design team added a center island, desk, bookshelves, pantry and free standing, double sided buffet. Three distinct work areas were created. The sink opposite the island cook top provides the primary work area. Additional space is available on the opposite side of the island and along the end wall texture was added with a combination of quartered plain anegre and fiddleback anegre veneers. Stainless steel appliances, contemporary hardware, granite countertops and recessed lighting accentuate the simplicity and elegance of the design. The well-coordinated team of skilled craftspeople and designers overcame spatial and structural limitations, exceeding even the homeowners’ expectations.
